The bodies of a British middle-aged couple and their daughter were found in their rented Costa del Sol apartment in Spain Wednesday afternoon.

Spanish authorities are investigating the possibility that the unidentifed man fatally shot his wife, who may have had some form of disability, before killing his daughter, who is believed to have suffered from Down’s Syndrome, the Guardian reported.

Then, investigators believe, he shot himself to death at the property, located in the popular holiday resort of Mijas near Fuengirola, Costa del Sol.

The owner of the rental property, having not heard from the family for days, visited it Wednesday to collect overdue rent. Receiving no reply at the door, he went inside, saw the man lying dead on the on the sofa and called police.

When the police entered the house, they found the wife and daughter shot to death in the bedroom.

The British Foreign Office said Wednesday that it is aware of the reports and is in touch with Spanish authorities.
