KARACHI, Pakistan — Police in Pakistan say a car bomb has killed a senior police investigator known for arresting dozens of Pakistani Taliban, as well as two other officers.
Police officer Amir Farooqi says the slain investigator, Chaudhry Aslam, came under attack Thursday as he passed through a commercial area of Eisa Naghri in the port city of Karachi.
Aslam was known for bravery and he had escaped many attempts on his life in recent years.
Pakistani Taliban spokesman Sajjad Mohmand claimed responsibility for the attack. In a telephone call to The Associated Press, Mohmand says they killed Aslam for torturing their associates.
Karachi is the capital of southern Sindh province.
Aslam played a leading role in arresting scores of militants and other criminals there in recent years.
