China has opened the world's largest building — so big that it features a lavish beach resort, a quaint Mediterranean village, a 14-screen movie theater, an Olympic-sized ice rink, and two five-star hotels.
If that's not enough, the New Century Global Centre, which has over 5.5 million square feet of floor space, also contains a university, a replica pirate ship, a gigantic shopping mall and horizons that feature sunrises and sunsets.
To grasp how big the New Century is, imagine the Pentagon times three, or 20 Sydney Opera Houses put together, the
London Independent reports.
By comparison, the largest building in the United States is Palazzo in Las Vegas, which,by size, is only ranked 11th in the world.
The New Century is located in the Tianfu district of Chengdu, China's fourth-largest city which has fast become one of its leading financial hubs.
The building's developers say its design is "themed with a comprehensive and profound oceanic culture and inspired by the design concept of sailing seagulls and undulating waves."
The 388-foot-tall exterior is made of a shiny blue-mirrored glass, which stands like a massive dome over the city.
At the center of the building is a large water park called Paradise Island, which features a sandy beach.
The building stands opposite the Chengdu Contemporary Arts Centre, designed by renowned British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.
