NAIROBI, Kenya — A Kenyan terrorist suspect admits in court that he was in possession of six bombs including four suicide vests and that he is a member of al-Shabab, the Somali Islamist extremist group allied to al-Qaida that has vowed terrorist attacks on Kenya.

Abdi Majid Yassin Mohammed admitted before magistrate Lucy Nyambura Monday that he is a member of al-Shabab and that he was in possession of the explosives and 481 bullets. His co-accused, Omar Abdi Adan, denied 10 charges against him including the weapons charges.

The two suspects were arrested Friday in a raid which police said disrupted a major terrorist attack in the final stages of planning.

Al-Shabab has vowed to carry out attacks in Kenya because the country sent troops into Somalia in October to fight the rebels.
