When Herman Cain wrote of his decision to run for president, he sold himself as "a people's president," but, with all due respect to Mr. Cain, who has been a champion of conservatism, what America needs is a "constitutional" president.
Herman Cain is a great conservative and has been one of America's most underappreciated voices of free markets, personal responsibility and sound solutions to the problems created by big government.
He deserves a fair hearing from conservatives, and I expect that he will, even if not elected, move the Republican field of presidential candidates to the right.
He's that much of a persuasive and powerful thinker.
I am sure his campaign will be serious and interesting, but what the tea party, conservatives, and America need is a leader and president who will not just serve the interests of a group of people, but show fidelity to the rule of law under the Constitution.
It's common for Democratic candidates, RINOs, and others to claim that they will be "a people's president."
While Cain's approach to problem solving, that is "working on the right problems, right priorities, right people, and right plans," is important for a corporate leader, it is not what this country needs in a serious presidential candidate, much less a president.
Conservative activists and tea partyers have clearly defined what the next president's approach to problem solving should be: above all else, returning America to its proper constitutional limitations.
Once we achieve that, all other problems we face will be put into proper perspective.
If the Democrats and RINOs learned anything in November, it's that the American people are looking for political leaders with the courage to stop crony capitalism and kleptocracy, as well as significantly reduce the size of government (some of which is popular among a large section of "the people").
To do that, we need a president who will articulate and act to restrict the power and scope of government by the freedom-protecting limitations of the Constitution.
Let's take every opportunity to remind every presidential candidate at every opportunity that we save the future of our country by returning to the Constitution.
