Trump campaign spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday that healthcare would be used to attract union workers to President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

"That will be a big, big selling point to union workers is healthcare," McEnany told Hill.TV.

"Some Democratic candidates actively say I want to abolish employer-provided insurance," she added, not identifying any specific contender.

"Others, like Joe Biden, say I want a public option that we would argue would crowd out employer-provided insurance, which is obviously key and very important to union workers who love their healthcare."

McEnany's comments come as more than 45,000 United Automobile Workers at General Motors are striking over improved wages and benefits, including healthcare.

In addition, several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates — including Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. — are pushing a "Medicare for All" plan that would substitute a government-run program for private insurance.

But former Vice President Joe Biden and other moderates argue that Democrats should instead work to improve Obamacare and expand access to care.
