Whitewater Prosecutor: No Crime Shown in Ukraine Reports

Whitewater Prosecutor: No Crime Shown in Ukraine Reports

Former Whitewater prosecutor Robert Ray on Thursday insisted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., does not have enough votes yet to proceed with impeaching President Donald Trump, and even if she does, the whistleblower's report about his phone call with Ukraine's president does not show that any crime has been committed.

"I've listened to the Democrats now for months talk about the fact that they're approaching a majority of the majority to decide whether or not to proceed with impeachment," Ray told Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria." "Last time I checked the majority of the majority does not constitute the majority of the House."

Further, the claims against Trump do not meet the high crimes and misdemeanors criteria for impeachment, said Ray.

There was no treason involved, as Democrats tried to say, as Ukraine is an ally, and bribery does not apply because the federal laws do not apply to foreign officials.

In addition, Ray argued, there was no trade-off between Trump's withholding of foreign aid for Ukraine in exchange for an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, and the Justice Department's public integrity section determined there was no foreign campaign contribution, as asking for an investigation did not benefit Trump personally, Ray said.

Trump, after the interview, paraphrased Ray's comments in a tweet:

"'Is there a case for impeachment? Absolutely not! There is no high crime or misdemeanor, no crime, no extortion, no treason.' Robert Ray"

On the argument about the telephone call itself, one could say it was an "error in judgment" but in the end, Trump released millions in foreign aid money and there was no investigation into Joe Biden's son, Hunter.

"What does this do?" he said. "It harms the vice president's campaign, gives the Democrats apparently what they want. They will head in the direction now of Elizabeth Warren."
