Obamas to Meet TV's President, First Lady at Correspondents' Dinner

Friday, 02 May 2014 02:43 PM

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will meet the President and First Lady of television  – “Scandal” stars Tony Goldwyn and Bellamy Young — on Saturday night.

Goldwyn and Young, who play President Fitzgerald and Mellie Grant on the ABC drama, will be attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner along with a who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list, and sports celebrities, broadcasters and political standouts, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, according to Deadline.

The black-tie affair, marking the centennial dinner of the association and hosted by “Community” star Joel McHale, will be held at the Washington Hilton and will be filmed live by CNN.

“Duck Dynasty” stars Willie and Korie Robertson also are expected, although Phil Robertson, the A&E reality show's family patriarch who made racist and homophobic remarks last year, does not appear on the guest list.

Several stars of Netflix’s political drama “House of Cards,” including Robin Wright and Michael Kelly, will be showing up along with the show’s creator-writer Beau Willimon.

Olivia Munn, of HBO’s “The Newsroom,” ABC’s “Revenge” star Madeline Stowe, and “The Good Wife” actress Julianna Margulies also are on the list.

ABC’s “Modern Family” will be represented by Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Sofia Vergara while Fox’s “Glee” will have Matthew Morrison and Renee Puente in attendance.

Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan from ABC’s “Live with Kelly and Michael” will also be there, as well as talk show host Katie Couric.

Apart from Obama, the biggest political celebrity scheduled to attend is Christie, who may face an onslaught of jokes about the Bridge-gate scandal from McHale.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is also on the list, along with Rep. Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican.

The sports stars invited to attend include Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

The annual dinner is thrown by the White House Correspondents' Association, an organization of journalists who cover the White House, and consists of the headliner and host, in this case McHale, poking fun at politics and the presidents.

But the evening is most noted for the president being free to roast his political rivals.
