The ex-wife of a White House speechwriter who resigned because of sex assault says she has been so fearful of her safety that she hid in a Maine hotel room.

"I am in a black hole," Jessica Corbett, 32, told The Portland Press Herald. "The humiliation I've endured is why other victims suffer silently and that is the only reason I am speaking up."

On Friday, David Sorensen, a speechwriter who worked under senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, resigned as The Washington Post reported claims by Corbett that he was violent and emotionally abusive during their 2-and-a-half-year marriage.

She alleges Sorenson ran a car over her foot, put out a cigarette on her hand, threw her into a wall and grasped her menacingly by her hair while they were alone in a boat — charges he vehemently denies. Sorenson counters it was he that was abused.

Corbett told the Press Herald that after holing up in the hotel, she has remained in hiding, only emerging from her "hiding place" on Sunday to go to church.

Sorensen was the second White House staffer to resign last week amid accusations of domestic violence by former wives. On Wednesday, White House staff secretary Rob Porter resigned after two ex-wives accused him of abusing them.
