The whistleblower behind the Ukraine complaint wants to meet with lawmakers, according to their counsel.

"In order to ensure maximum legal protections for our client, we can confirm press reports that, [Tuesday], we wrote to the acting director of national intelligence to request specific guidance as to the appropriate security practices to permit a meeting, if needed, with the members of the Intelligence Oversight Committees," the attorneys wrote in a statement. "We await a timely response from the acting director providing such guidance."

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., tweeted Tuesday that his committee was in touch with the whistleblower's counsel and looking forward to "testimony as soon as this week."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Tuesday announced a formal impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump centered on whether he abused his presidential powers and sought help from a foreign government to undermine Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden and help his own re-election.

The whistleblower filed a complaint about his phone call with Ukraine's leader, but Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire refused to comply with a deadline to hand over the complaint to Congress even though it had been deemed "credible and urgent" by the intelligence community inspector general.
