Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Saturday said the NBA champion Golden State Warriors were welcome to visit the nation’s capital despite President Donald Trump uninviting star player Steph Curry to the White House.

Championship sports teams visiting the president at the White House goes back to the days of Andrew Johnson.

But Curry late last week said he wouldn’t be attending, and Trump in response tweeted that Curry was no longer invited. The Warriors released a statement saying it was disappointed it hadn’t been given the chance to discuss its decision before Trump made it for them, and, when they traveled to Washington to play the Wizards on Feb. 28., would not visit the White House and, “constructively use our trip to the nation’s capital” to “celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion – the values that we embrace as an organization.”

Bowser welcomed the idea in a statement he posted on Twitter.

“While you’re here, Warriors, we are happy to identify ways for you to celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion – what we call DC values. And if anyone ever tells you that you cannot come to D.C., tell them Mayor Bowser invited you.”
