The suspected shooter in a quadruple slaying at a Waffle House near Nashville, Tennessee — arrested last July in a restricted area near the White House and banned from any weapons possession — was given his guns back by his father, authorities said Monday.

In a news conference following the arrest of Travis Reinking, 29, a mentally troubled man who was fascinated by guns, authorities said the father of the unhinged suspect was now being scrutinized for any violations as well.

Authorities said Reinking was banned from owning or purchasing weapons after the White House incident, but his father gave them back to his son. The father, who was not identified in the news conference, could possible face charges in the case, authorities said.

Nashville Lt. Carlos Lara said a tip from someone who spotted Reinking near a construction site led them to the suspect — who immediately got onto the ground and was cuffed.

A backpack he was wearing at the time contained a silver Kimber semiautomatic weapon with 45-caliber ammunition along with a flashlight. He was carrying ID, Lara said.

Reinking asked for legal counsel and refused to give a statement to authorities, officials said, adding he had been taken to a hospital and then to jail to be booked on four counts of criminal homicide.

The arrest capped a massive manhunt sparked by the bloodshed at a Waffle House near Nashville on Sunday.
