Virginia has received a request from a Confederate heritage group for permission to hold a gathering at the Robert E. Lee monument in Richmond this September, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

Bragdon Bowling, former commander of the Virginia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, submitted the request on behalf of Americans for Richmond Monument Preservation to hold the event, according to an agency spokeswoman who told the paper that the application is under review and has yet to be approved.

Over the weekend, a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., turned violent, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to many more. Later that day, the governor declared a state of emergency and put a halt to a rally over the removal of a Confederate general’s statue from a public park.
