President Donald Trump is going ahead with plans to hold a big military parade in Washington on Veterans Day — stepping off at the White House and ending at Capitol Building, Politico reports.

The political website said Trump has told the Department of Defense to organize a parade for Nov. 11, according to an unclassified Feb. 20 memo from national security adviser H.R. McMaster.

Politico said a "senior administration official" summarized the memo from McMaster to Secretary of Defense James Mattis. The memo reportedly said Trump wants Mattis to brief him on "concepts of operation for this event."

Trump first raised the idea of a military parade when he attended France's Bastille Day parade last summer.

"It was a tremendous day, and to a large extent because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July 4th in Washington," Trump was quoted as saying when French President Emmanuel Macron visited Washington two months later. "We're going to have to try to top it."

Trump said the purpose of the parade would be to honor the military. The idea has gotten mixed reviews from politicians, military officials, pundits and local District of Columbia officials since The Washington Post reported several weeks ago that Trump wanted the Pentagon to start planning for the parade.

National Public Radio reported last week that the Pentagon has developed five options ranging in cost from $3 million to $50 million.

Politico said the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
