The United Kingdom has announced a £60,000 death-in-service payout to National Health Service workers and social care staff who have died from the coronavirus.

There have been 82 NHS workers and 16 social care workers who have died to date, according to Sky News

The amount is $74,532 (US).

NHS Secretary Matt Hancock said the UK has a "deep personal sense of duty that we must care for their loved ones."

"Of course, nothing replaces the loss of a loved one, but we want to do everything we can to support families who are dealing with this grief," Hancock added, per the report.

There are others involved in the global coronavirus pandemic response in the U.K. who might not have a life insurance policy, he added, and his office will look "to see where this may be required."

The NHS announced cancer care and mental health support services that were put on pause during the pandemic will resume Tuesday, per the report.
