Uber, Lyft Slammed for Price Gouging During NYC Terror Attack

Uber and Lyft have been condemned for dramatically jacking up prices for their rides in the vicinity of Monday’s terror attack at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City.

Following the pipe bomb explosion that injured four people including the terrorist, the two car services applied surge pricing to their rates.

One rider said they had to pay a whopping $50 to travel 30 blocks during the emergency, while another said a trip that usually costs less than $30 was increased to $75, the Daily Mail reports.

Both companies walked back on their spiking of prices and pledged to refund customers who were gouged – but not before some customers took to Twitter to call them out.

Akayed Ullah, 27, was charged Tuesday by New York City police with supporting an act of terrorism, making a terroristic threat and weapon possession for detonating a homemade pipe bomb during rush hour at the bus terminal in midtown Manhattan. Federal charges are expected soon.
