The Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday that 500 employees who work in U.S. airports have tested positive for COVID-19.
So far, 208 of the infected employees have fully recovered and four have died, according to the TSA.
The reported numbers do not include TSA employees who have limited interaction with the public.
The greatest number of cases are from employees of airports in the New York metropolitan area, according to data released by the agency.
At John F. Kennedy International Airport, 105 employees have tested positive for the virus. Newark Liberty International Airport reported 56 workers contracted coronavirus followed by 32 logged cases at LaGuardia Airport.
Outside of New York, the airport with the most cases is Louis Armstrong New Orleans International airport, where 27 TSA workers have tested positive.
The TSA also announced it is providing employees with N95 respirator masks and eye protection.
