President Donald Trump’s former doctor told The New York Times that he hid cauliflower in the president’s mashed potatoes and made ice cream less available in an attempt to improve Trump’s diet and have him lose weight.
Former White House physician Ronny Jackson said in a report published on Monday that he also had hoped to introduce an exercise bike or other fitness equipment into the president’s routine, but admitted that “The exercise stuff never took off as much as I wanted it to.”
He added that “we were working on his diet. We were making the ice cream less accessible, we were putting cauliflower into the mashed potatoes.”
However, Jackson’s efforts did not work, as Trump gained four pounds at his last public medical examination in February 2019, rather than lose the 10 to 15 pounds Jackson had aimed for, the Independent reported.
Jackson departed from the White House after withdrawing his name for consideration to become the Veterans Affairs Department secretary due to allegations of professional misconduct.
He is now a candidate for a seat in Congress for Texas’ 13th District, one of the nation’s most conservative counties, to replace retiring Rep.Mac Thornberry.
Jackson is hoping his ties to the Trump administration will win him enough votes to emerge victorious over two well-connected opponents.
