Jeopardy! On Thursday shared an inspiring posthumous video message from former longtime host Alex Trebek, who died from pancreatic cancer on Nov. 8 at the age of 80.
''Happy Thanksgiving, ladies and gentlemen,'' Trebek started off. ''You know, in spite of what America and the rest of the world is experiencing right now, there are many reasons to be thankful.
''There are more and more people extending helpful hands to do a kindness to their neighbors, and that’s a good thing,'' he said.
''Keep the faith. We’re going to get through all this, and we are going to be a better society because of it,'' he added, pointing at the camera.
Trebek, who hosted the show since 1984, filmed 35 episodes in the weeks before his death. His latest episode was recorded on Oct. 29 and will air on Christmas Day.
He was a master of the quiz show format, engaging in friendly banter with contestants, appearing genuinely pleased when they answered correctly and, at the same time, moving the game along in a brisk no-nonsense fashion whenever people struggled for answers.
