EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A top U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement intelligence officer has been suspended amid allegations that he and a subordinate schemed to cash out bogus travel expense reports.
James M. Woosley was ICE's deputy director of intelligence until he was placed on administrative leave Feb. 4. His suspension came the same day the FBI raided the El Paso home of Ahmed Adil Abdallat, a senior ICE intelligence analyst.
Abdallat appeared at a detention hearing Wednesday. He is charged with receiving $123,000 in reimbursements for fake travel expenses.
Shannon N. Enochs, an FBI special agent, testified that Woosley took kickbacks for authorizing the phony expenses and spent years protecting Abdallat,
Enochs said Abdallat is the subject of a larger money laundering investigation and had at least $1.4 million in Jordanian bank accounts.
