FRC's Tony Perkins: Keep Gay Exhibit out of Smithsonian

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins doesn't think the Smithsonian Institution should put memorabilia and documents related to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender history in its museums.

"Is it the Museum of Natural History or Unnatural History?" he asked on a radio bulletin.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has been compiling the documents and items from the TV show "Will and Grace," which has ruffled the feathers of Conservatives like Perkins who feel the exhibit will "rewrite history." The TV show featured several gay characters.

"This is just another platform for the left to rewrite history and ignore the destructive side effects of homosexuality," Perkins said. "Students are already bombarded with the LGBT agenda — do they really need to walk past exhibits treating its extremists as heroes? The Smithsonian may know art, but it should stop trying to frame the culture debate."

Other items the museum will display in the exhibit are the diplomatic passport belonging to Ambassador David Huebner, who was the first openly gay U.S. ambassador to be confirmed by the Senate, and photos that showcase LGBT rights activism, reports the Associated Press.

Perkins called all of the items in the exhibit "propaganda."
