Akin Repeatedly Arrested at 1985 Abortion Protests

Tuesday, 23 October 2012 07:14 PM EDT

A newly published report says Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin was repeatedly arrested during anti-abortion protests in 1985.

Akin recently acknowledged being arrested once, about 25 years ago, but has declined to discuss additional details.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on its website Tuesday that its newspaper archives include at least three accounts of Akin being arrested in March and April of 1985. In one case, the newspaper's 1985 story said "police had to carry Akin into an elevator" after arresting him at a demonstration in St. Louis.

Campaign adviser Rick Tyler said Akin doesn't dispute Monday's Post-Dispatch report, but said Akin won't have anything more to say about it.

Akin is challenging Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill in the Nov. 6 election.
