Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is focused on his budding baseball career and said during a new interview he will not commit to playing in the XFL in two years.

Sports Illustrated spoke with Tebow, who is preparing to begin spring training with the New York Mets, and brought up the fact that professional wrestling executive Vince McMahon recently said Tebow would be a good fit for his XFL league — an alternative to the NFL that will resume in 2020 after its one and only season in 2001.

"That's very nice of him, but 2020 is a long way from now," Tebow said. "I'm focused on today, I'm focused on spring training and a lot of things before that. I'm not even close to thinking about that right now."

When asked to clarify if his answer was a yes or a no, Tebow replied, "What if it's a 'I have no idea?' That's in 2020 and I'm super excited about baseball."

Tebow won the 2007 Heisman Trophy as a member of the University of Florida. He then played for the NFL's Denver Broncos (2010–2011) and New York Jets (2012). He played in preseason games for the New England Patriots in 2013 and for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015, but was cut from each of those teams before the regular season began.

Tebow has played baseball for the Mets organization since 2016.

Tebow is open about his Christian faith and became known for "Tebowing," which involves taking a knee and saying a prayer on the field.
