Country music's power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill talked about gun control in a new interview, asking that lawmakers enact some legislation in the wake of several mass shootings across the country.

McGraw and Hill, who have been married since 1996, spoke with Billboard about a variety of topics.

"Look, I'm a bird hunter — I love to wing-shoot," McGraw said. "However, there is some common sense that's necessary when it comes to gun control. They want to make it about the Second Amendment every time it's brought up. It's not about the Second Amendment."

The interview took place less than two weeks after the Las Vegas massacre, during which a man shot and killed 58 people with assault-style weapons that had been outfitted with devices to mimic automatic fire. More than 500 people were wounded in the shooting that occurred during a country concert.

"The doctors that [treated] the wounded [in Las Vegas], they saw wounds like you'd see in war," Hill said. "That's not right. Military weapons should not be in the hands of civilians. It's everyone's responsibility, including the government and the National Rifle Association, to tell the truth. We all want a safe country."

In past interviews, McGraw has referred to himself as a "Blue Dog Democrat," a term used to describe Democrats with some conservative views. He put on a concert in 2015 that benefited Sandy Hook Promise, an anti-violence group that came together after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
