A Florida Tea Party Reaches a Milestone

Tuesday, 18 January 2011 05:29 PM EST

For two hours every Saturday afternoon at a busy intersection in Fort Lauderdale, tea party supporters gather in numbers ranging from a handful to several dozen to wave signs and be heard. This Saturday will be no different except that it’s the 100th consecutive weekly gathering, the Broward Politics blog of the Sun Sentinel reports.

Tea Party Fort Lauderdale is one of the first such groups formed since February 2009, when CNBC reporter Rick Santelli made his now-famous call for a new American tea party.

Nationwide, the movement is credited with helping deliver Republicans a majority in the House and with redefining the debate about government spending.
