A 5-year-old girl in the Bronx, N.Y., was hospitalized Monday after she crawled from under a subway train that had killed her father when he grabbed her and jumped in front of it during the morning commute.

The child, whose name was not released, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and was treated for cuts, The New York Times reports, and was listed in stable condition later Monday.

Her father, Fernando Balbuena-Flores, 45, was killed by a southbound No. 4 train at the Kingsbridge Road station shortly before 8 a.m. ET. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Cellphone video by station platform onlookers showed the girl crawling from under the train, being hoisted onto the platform and consoled by waiting passengers.

"The only apparent sign of any physical injury was a small trickle of blood dripping down the girl's forehead," the New York Post reports, "though she can be heard wailing in the moments after the traumatic incident."

Balbuena-Flores apparently grabbed his daughter before jumping onto the tracks, according to multiple news reports. She later was united with her mother at the hospital.

Video also recorded the child being carried in the arms of a New York Fire Department first-responder to an ambulance.

"She got lucky," a police source told the Post. "It's amazing that she's alive."
