Subway Suspends Ties With Jared Amid Child Pornography Probe

Tuesday, 07 Jul 2015 06:17 PM

Subway is suspending its relationship with spokesman Jared Fogle amid his child pornography investigation, the Associated Press reports.

Federal authorities raided Fogle's home on Tuesday -- less than two months after the former director of his nonprofit organization was arrested on child pornography charges.

The sandwich chain said in statement to AP that Fogle continues to cooperate with authorities and expects "no actions to be forthcoming." The company said both parties agreed that suspending the relationship was "the appropriate step to take."

Fogle, 37, lives in the Indianapolis suburb of Zionsville.

CBS News has confirmed with law enforcement officials that Fogle is a suspect in the child pornography investigation.

Subway also suggested that their famous weight-loss spokesman was involved in the case.

"We are shocked about the news and believe it is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee," Subway said in a statement. "We are very concerned and will be monitoring the situation closely. We don't have any more details at this point."

According to the Indianapolis Star, state and federal officials took electronics from Fogle's home and analyzed them in a truck outside.

Fogle, 37, was home at the time of the arrest and could be seen entering the evidence truck.

His former associate, Richard Taylor, faces seven counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography after authorities found graphic of children on his computer.

He later attempted suicide in prison but was placed on life support and survived.

Fogle issued a statement at the time saying he was "shocked" by the arrest.

Subway has since removed a link to "Jared's Journey" -- a special page devoted to his weight loss -- from its website.
