Oscar-winner Spike Lee has compared Donald Trump to mass-murderer David Berkowitz, who terrorized New York City in the 1970s as the "Son of Sam."

Lee — director of "Do the Right Thing" and "Summer of Sam," the latter about Berkowitz's summer-long rampage in which he shot and killed six people — made the outlandish comparison in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

When asked which of his movie characters he believed was most like Trump, Lee said: "I mean, I did a film called 'Summer of Sam.' It was about the infamous summer of 1977, New York City. And there was a certain person who had the whole city in terror."

Lee, who supports and is campaigning for Bernie Sanders as the Democratic presidential nominee, was then asked which of his movie characters was most like the Vermont senator.

"I would say the Ossie Davis character, the mayor, in 'Do the Right Thing,''' replied Lee, in a nod to Davis' portrayal of an easy-going neighborhood peacemaker.

And which of his characters would be compare to Hillary Clinton, Sanders' rival and the Democratic presidential front-runner.

"Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in one of my films . . . I would say the Ruby Dee role in 'Jungle Fever,'" said Lee, referring to his R-rated 1991 drama in which Dee portrays the mother of a married African-American architect who has an affair with his Italian secretary.
