DENVER (AP) — A Colorado mom says she and her family were watching TV in their pajamas when she heard President Barack Obama read from an email she wrote to tell him how a government shutdown could spoil her son's school trip.
Shalini Schane (SHAL'-uh-nee SHAYN) of Longmont said Saturday that she wrote to the president because she was worried the students would be shut out of Washington landmarks.
Schane says the White House called her Friday saying the email might be used in a speech. But she says she was shocked to hear Obama quote her in his speech Friday after a deal averted the shutdown.
Obama didn't mention Schane by name. The Longmont Times-Call first reported she wrote the email.
A White House spokesman didn't immediately return a call Saturday.
