Most Americans say they think it will be safe enough to attend a social gathering with more than 10 people sometime in June, according to a new poll released Tuesday.
The poll conducted by the Washington Post and University of Maryland surveyed 1,013 adults between April 14-19.
The results indicate:
- 65% say they expect the pandemic to be under control enough to allow social gatherings by the end of June or later.
- 9% say gatherings will be safe by the end of April.
- 21% say gatherings will be safe by the end of May.
- 20% say gatherings will be safe by the end of June.
The poll found that a majority of people asked said their state's governor's response was good. Seventy-two percent said their governor's response was good compared to 26% who said it was bad.
The president did not fare as favorable as the governors in the poll. Fifty-four percent of those polled said Trump's response to the coronavirus was not good compared to 44% who said it was good.
The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
