Billionaire casino mogul and conservative political donor Sheldon Adelson is reportedly investing in a $1.4 billion project to build a new stadium in Las Vegas to house the Oakland Raiders.
The Guardian reports that Adelson has partnered with Mark Davis, owner of the Raiders, and a real-estate company to advance the deal. Davis says he'll move the California football club to Nevada if the stadium gets the go-head.
But the project cannot move ahead without $750m in public financing — an amount
some believe would be better spent on education, according to The Guardian.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada's biggest newspaper which Adelson recently purchased, is going along with the project. In January, it declared the 65,000-seat stadium "a must-do" and an "urgent need" for the glitzy gambling mecca.
Meanwhile, Adelson is reportedly set to donate at least $100 million to help elect presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump,
The New York Times reports.
