Rev. Sharpton Claims Conservative Hosts 'Rewriting History'

The Rev. Al Sharpton this week went after conservative radio hosts and political commentators Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Bill O'Reilly, accusing them of "ducking" racial inequality issues and calling them an "insult" to their listeners.

According to Politico, Sharpton on Wednesday played a comment on his MSNBC "Politics Nation" program of Limbaugh addressing the issue of "white guilt." Sharpton said the remarks represented "a new low."

"If any race of people should not have guilt about slavery, it's Caucasians," Limbaugh reportedly said.

"Even for Limbaugh, that's a new low," Sharpton told his own viewers. "A cynical display of willful ignorance. It's an insult to their own listeners the kind of way that they are ducking and avoiding and trying to play distractions."

He then zeroed in on Beck for accusing President Barack Obama of trying to divide America in the aftermath of the George Zimmerman acquittal by telling White House reporters that Trayvon Martin "could have been me." Sharpton described the president's comments as an "emotional" appeal for people to recognize that racial prejudice still exists in America.

"The man who is supposed to unite the United States of America is an expert on the most divisive form of politics in existence today," Beck observed on The Blaze TV.

Sharpton reserved his final criticism for Fox News television host O'Reilly, attacking him for returning "to his favorite argument that the real problem in America is the black family."

"I believe that the root of the black crime problem in America is the disintegration of the African-American family," O'Reilly said in another television clip Sharpton played for his audience.

"You got to stop young black women from having babies out of wedlock," O'Reilly. "You've got to discourage that actively."

Sharpton argued that the clips he played show that the right wing political commentators "will not deal with the question of inequality."

"They only want to deal with anything other than the fact that we still have a challenge of racial injustice and profiling in this country," he concluded.
