Saturday’s senseless killings have understandably made many members of Congress concerned about their security. And some say they’ll soon be packing heat. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., herself owns a gun. But Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance Gainer says it’s unwise for lawmakers to carry firearms,
The Hill reports.
"I don't think that's a good idea," the Senate's top law enforcement official and former chief of the U.S. Capitol Police said on ABC's "Good Morning America." "I think we should leave the law enforcement and security to those professionals."
Reps. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and Heath Shuler, D-N.C., told Politico they will carry guns in their home districts. But, "I've been a policeman for 42 years and I don't think introducing more guns to the situation is helpful," Gainer says.
