Senate Votes to Outlaw Lunatics

There are no lunatics in Washington — or at least there won’t be if the Senate gets its way.

In a rare display of bipartisanship, the Upper Chamber has voted to ban the word from all federal laws, because it is outdated, Fox News reports.

Democrat Sen. Kent Corad of North Dakota and Republican Mike Crapo of Idaho sponsored the legislation that sailed unanimously through committee and the full chamber in less than a month without a single amendment.

"Sen. Crapo and I agree that federal law should reflect the 21st century understanding of mental illness and disease, and that the continued use of this pejorative term has no place in the U.S. Code," said Conrad.

However, the bid to ban lunatics could hit a roadblock as there are no plans to introduce similar legislation in the House.
