Scott Walker Wants to Remove School Hours Requirement

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is aiming to remove state rules about hours that children are required to be in school.

"It's not the amount of hours, it's not the number of days, it's what they're actually learning," Walker said Tuesday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

The budget he is planning is a way to increase school funding, not reduce it, he said.

"The budget I propose, if we make this change, puts the most money into K-12 education than ever before," Walker said.

The governor said he wants successful education to be a priority, not quantity of time spent at the school. "Not because I want less instruction, because I want good instruction," he said.

"It's the quality of the education that we should be focusing on. And if one school district can do it in less time, so be it, but another may take extra time. I'm fine with that. Let the local school district decide," Walker said.

Walker said that his budget proposal would provide "historic levels" of funding, according to Wisconsin TV station TMJ4.
