Hollywood has taken yet another swipe at Republicans, this time Rick Santorum.
Alan Ball, the creator and producer of “True Blood,” the fifth season of HBO’s paranormal romance thriller was inspired by the former Pennsylvanian and the GOP primaries, The Wrap.com reports.
“For me the jumping-off point was watching the Republican primaries — watching Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum — and asking what would it be like to have a theocracy in America, which is way more terrifying than any fictional monster could ever be,” Ball said.
Ball and his team of writers ran with the idea of “a vampire theocracy” and focused on how this “would impact our human characters, or vampire characters.”
He cited Santorum as an inspiration because, “What’s terrifying is how many people agree with him,” The Wrap reports.
Last week, HBO apologized amid outrage for using former President George W. Bush’s decapitated head in “Game of Thrones.”
Bush’s head, topped with straggly hair and on a spike, appeared briefly in one episode of the fantasy series that aired last year. The mention of the former president’s head went unnoticed until someone on Reddit flagged it, bringing swift condemnation.
HBO and the show’s creators moved to contain the fallout as fury built up on Twitter.
