The Board of Supervisors of San Francisco, California has passed a first-of-its-kind law mandating that retailers educate their customers how much radiation the cellphones they sell emit, according to a report by the Washington Post.
Although the statutory language was devoid of the word "cancer," the bill has come forward at a time of great debate as to whether cellphone use contributes to the deadly disease.
Meanwhile, similar laws in Maine and California were nipped in the bud by the makers of the iPhone and Droid -- and the telecom giants that carry those phones on their networks.
"San Francisco has gotten out front on a number of issues historically," said John Walls, an industry spokesman, "but in this case, we are concerned they are leading the pack down a wrong and misleading road."
