Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, seen by some as having too-stiff a demeanor, may soon be getting a more relaxed persona.
Retailer Urban Outfitters, a popular clothier among younger people known for its edgy and occasionally irreverent product design, has begun offering a cache of Romney-themed apparel, hawking t-shirts with slogans like “Too Legit to Mitt” and “Mitt is the S***,” reports
ABC News.
One particular shirt, an ode to rock band KISS, features a mock-up of Mitt Romney wearing KISS-themed makeup, with the word “MITT” under the photo written in trademark KISS typography.
According to recent polling data, President Barack Obama is besting Romney by a roughly 2 to 1 margin among younger voters. Romney’s options for fixing this youth deficit are limited — younger voters tend to vote Democratic, and their strong support for then-Sen. Obama in 2008 promises Romney an uphill climb to win their votes in 2012.
With a bit of help from Urban Outfitters, however, Romney may soon earn some street cred — or at least a few laughs.
Urban Outfitters CEO Richard Hayne, who has previously donated money to Romney’s defeated GOP rival, former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Penn., is a well-known supporter of conservative causes.
