Fox News' Roger Ailes: 'I Like Joe and Mika' at MSNBC

By    |   Wednesday, 08 April 2015 05:26 PM

Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes admits to liking one show on his cable news competitor MSNBC: "Morning Joe."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he made the "35 Most Powerful People in New York Media 2015" list, Ailes said he enjoys the show hosted by former Republican Rep. Joe Scarborough and journalist Mika Brzezinski.

But he isn't so keen on the rest of the liberal-leaning channel's lineup.

"I flip to MSNBC occasionally to make sure their blind pig didn’t find an acorn. But they never have once," Ailes said. "I tell you who I do like at MSNBC: I like Joe and Mika."

Ailes said he also doesn't watch much of his other main news rival CNN, saying, "They got out of the news business in prime time."

He said he checks in to see if CNN has a good documentary or movie.

"If they do, I’ll watch that," he said.

Ailes also gave his assessment of people in Hollywood, saying they "are hopelessly misguided" and think they’ll better their careers by criticizing the institutions and values that made the country great.

"I like Hollywood people. But they need a history lesson," Ailes said.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin and CNN President Jeff Zucker also made the Reporter's "Powerful People" list. Both declined to comment on Ailes' remarks, Politico reported.

Zucker did note in his own interview, however, that his favorite show on a rival channel was "The O’Reilly Factor" at 11 p.m. on Fox News.

"I just find Bill [O'Reilly] very informative and entertaining, Zucker said. "Make sure it’s noted I watch it at 11, not 8."

At 8 p.m. Eastern time, O'Reilly's first airing goes up against CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360." "The O'Reilly Factor" has been the highest-rated cable news show for years.

Scarborough also is on the Reporter's list with his co-host Brzezinski.

Talking Points Memo notes that Scarborough continues a back-and-forth with Fox News hosts.

When he appeared on "The Kelly File" in May 2014, host Megyn Kelly closed the interview saying, "If you want to see more of Joe, you can join his four viewers and see it tomorrow morning."

Scarborough acknowledged that Fox's vast viewership eclipses that of his own network.

"That's why I came here. Thank you, Roger," Scarbrough said, referencing Ailes.
