Rasmussen: Most Think Govt Will Go Bankrupt Before Budget Is Balanced

By    |   Tuesday, 22 May 2012 10:16 AM EDT

Just over half of U.S. voters are still skeptical that their elected officials will get the federal budget under control before it’s too late, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

The survey finds that 51 percent of Likely Voters believe the federal government will go bankrupt and be unable to pay its debt before the federal budget is balanced.

Thirty-six percent disagree and think it's more likely that the federal budget will be balanced first. Thirteen percent indicated that they are not sure

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on May 14-15, 2012, by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.

Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
