Rep. Hall: Dump New Climate Research Plan

By    |   Wednesday, 16 February 2011 04:08 PM EST

Many Republicans are skeptical about climate change research. And Texas GOP Rep. Ralph Hall, chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, is acting on that skepticism. He wants to withhold money for the Obama administration’s plan to restructure federal climate change research and monitoring programs, The Hill reports.

Specifically, he seeks to amend the House budget bill to keep the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from creating a new “Climate Service.” Hall proposes amending the continuing budget resolution the House is working on this week to fund the federal government through the end of fiscal year 2011. His amendment would prevent any money from going to “implement, establish, or create” the Climate Service.
