A once top-secret fallout shelter of former President John F. Kennedy will be closing its doors permanently to tourists on Sunday, the Washington Examiner reported Saturday.

The closure is part of an ongoing debate over who runs the facility. The feud is between its owner, the Port of Palm Beach, and the Palm Beach Maritime Museum, which leases it.

"It could be one of the tourism meccas in South Florida," Manuel Almira, director of the Port of Palm Beach told NBC- WPTV.

"This is actually where he would have run the free world from," said Anthony Miller, who currently runs the bunker on the island. "It's a great piece of history, so we hope it continues that way in the future."

Miller's lease is not being renewed after it expires on Oct. 31, the article explained. The bunker's code name was "Hotel" and was constructed during the Cold War amid tensions with Russia following World War II.

The announcement coincides with President Donald Trump's tweet on Saturday saying he was going to release classified documents related to Kennedy's assassination in 1963.
