Poll: Northam Leads by 5 Points in Va. Governor's Race

Democrat Ralph Northam is backed by 48 percent of likely voters in the Virginia governor's race, compared to his Republican opponent Ed Gillespie, who is favored by 43 percent, a new Fox News poll reveals.

Here are highlights from the Virginia poll:

  • 50 percent say Gillespie has attacked Northam unfairly during the campaign, compared to 39 percent who believe the Democrat is responsible for unfair attacks.
  • 60 percent of those polled say Confederate monuments in the state should stay up, while 26 percent say they should be taken down.
  • 41 percent of likely voters say they have a generally favorable opinion of President Donald Trump, while 55 percent have an unfavorable view.

The poll, conducted Nov. 2-5, surveyed 1,239 voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

The election is Tuesday.
