More voters trust President Donald Trump than they do the media, with 51 percent saying the national political media is "out of touch with everyday Americans," a new poll finds.
Just 28 percent said the national political media "understands the issues everyday Americans are facing" with 37 percent saying they trusted Trump's administration to tell the truth. The poll was conducted by Morning Consult among 2,006 adults between April 25-26.
Trump has tussled with the media for some time and in the past publicly called out reporters and outlets for pushing out what he called "fake news."
Forty-two percent of voters polled say they see fake news in national newspapers or network news broadcasts more than once or about once a day.
Only 38 percent said they have "a lot" or "some" trust in the media covering the Trump administration while 52 percent said they didn't have very much trust or none. Forty-eight percent said they thought the media was harder on Trump than on other presidents.
The poll was published a day ahead of the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, the biggest social event in Washington, D.C. which Trump is not attending despite many presidents' appearance in the past.
