Thirty-four percent of voters say the wealthy aren’t paying enough taxes, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday.

Americans who earn more than $600,000 annually pay a 37 percent tax rate, down from the 39.6 percent rate they paid before the GOP Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was passed in 2017. Democrats want a higher rate, citing potentially untapped revenue, while Republicans argue that lower taxes on the rich will spur economic growth.

The poll also found:

  • 28 percent of voters are concerned about the way the government spends money it collects during tax season
  • 55 percent think their taxes are “too high”
  • 37 percent say their tax bill is “just right”
  • 42 percent disapprove of President Donald Trump when it comes to taxes
  • 50 percent approve of the job Trump is doing with the economy
  • 74 percent believe, in general, that the president of the United States should be required to release his or her tax returns

“Over a year since Trump signed his tax cuts into law, voters just aren’t feeling it,” says Democratic pollster Chris Anderson, who conducts the Fox News poll with Republican Daron Shaw.

“His job approval for handling taxes is down, while more people say their taxes are too high and the rich aren’t paying their fair share.”

The Fox News poll, conducted March 17-20, surveyed 1,0002 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide.
