Sen. Dianne Feinstein is the favorite among voters over a Democratic challenger in a Public Policy Institute of California poll, Politico reported.

Forty-six percent would vote for the California Democrat, compared to 17 percent who would support her challenger, state Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León, while one-third of voters are still undecided.

Feinstein, 84, is running for a fifth term as U.S. senator. Two-thirds of likely voters said they had not heard of de León or did not know enough about him to have an opinion, according to the poll.

Feinstein won out over de León among Democrats, independent voters, men, women, and people of all racial and ethnic groups, Politico reported.

In California, the top two vote-getters in a June primary will compete in the November primary, no matter their party affiliation. No prominent Republican has announced a run for Feinstein's position, Politico noted.

The poll was conducted from Jan. 21-30 in a survey of 1,705 California adults, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points, the poll report said.
