The sheriff of Los Angeles County said protesters calling for the death of two deputies who were shot in an ambush are "almost worthy of ISIS."

Sheriff Alex Villanueva was on Fox News Tuesday to discuss the shooting of two of his deputies over the weekend while they were sitting in their patrol car. Protesters outside the hospital were shouting, "We hope they die."

Villanueva said language like that is "something almost worthy of ISIS."

"It's just a new low for the hatred that I don't think anyone in this nation has ever seen before," he said.

"We just don't expect it on our own shores and we have been here fighting to save people's lives across the county — it doesn't matter who you are and it is not something we are going to expect or tolerate."

Sunday's shooting was captured on a surveillance camera, but police have not made any arrests. The two deputies are expected to survive despite being shot in the head and face.
