Nearly $100 million in grant money will be used by local police departments to hire more officers, according to The Hill.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the grant funding and said 80 percent of the 179 police agencies getting money have agreed to cooperate with federal immigration agents in their detention facilities, according to the website.

"I continue to encourage every jurisdiction in America to collaborate with federal law enforcement and help us make this country safer," he said

The money, totaling $98.5 million, will be used by the departments to hire 802 additional officers, The Hill reported.

The grant goes directly to state, local and tribal law enforcements agencies throughout the nation to hire more officers for three years, KADN-TV in Louisiana reported.

It is designed to allow communities to address specific crime problems, KADN reported.
