Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will likely have an airport terminal named after him in his home state in the near future.

According to ABC 15, the Phoenix City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to name Terminal 3 at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport after McCain. The terminal is currently being renovated at a price tag of $590 million.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton confirmed the news on Twitter:

McCain was a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War and was captured by the North Vietnamese, who held him as a POW for five and a half years before he was released in 1973. He later served in the House starting in 1983 and joined the Senate in 1987.

McCain, 81, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer earlier this year.

ABC News reported that the resolution to rename the airport terminal after McCain will have to be approved by a heritage commission.

Terminal 4 at the Phoenix airport is named after former Arizona Republican Sen. Barry Goldwater, who ran for president in 1964.
