Police are investigating the slaying of Evelyn Rodriguez, the mother of an MS-13 murder victim, on the night of a vigil marking the two-year anniversary of her 16-year-old daughter's brutal stabbing death.
After her daughter's memorial had been dismantled before the start of the vigil, Rodriguez was run over by an SUV after confronting a woman driver trying to get a picture of her daughter back, according Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., who was attending the vigil that turned tragic.
Local police have ruled out the violent immigrant gang MS-13 from being involved, according to King, who added "this is under very serious investigation," even though no charges have been filed.
"The question now is was this done intentionally? Was it criminal negligence?" Rep. King told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."
"I can assure your viewers this is being carefully analyzed. Police have ruled out MS-13. The question is whether or not the neighbor who drove the car, I believe the question is whether or not this was intentional."
Rodriguez had been a prominent figure speaking out against MS-13 and was invited to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address last January.
"She was absolutely committed in a bipartisan way to destroying MS-13, so that no other child would have happen to them what had happened to her daughter McKayla [Cuevas]," King said.
